ApoB
ApoB is a protein carried by every atherogenic (blood-vessel-damaging) particle — LDL, VLDL and others. Since each such particle carries exactly one ApoB, the measurement counts how many particles are actually circulating in your blood.
| Rating | Range | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Good | below 0.8 g/L | The number of atherogenic particles is low — this protects your blood vessels. |
| Worth improving | 0.8 – 0.9 g/L | Slightly above optimum — lower LDL/ApoB, monitor. |
| Talk to a doctor | 0.9 g/L and above | Elevated — an important predictor of cardiac risk; seek advice. |
Why it matters
Per ESC/EAS, ApoB is a direct CAUSE of atherosclerosis and a better predictor than LDL; the target value is lower at higher cardiovascular risk.
If it’s low
Low ApoB is favorable — few atherogenic particles.
If it’s high
High ApoB means many particles that can penetrate the vessel wall — more opportunities for plaque buildup. We treat it much like LDL: lowering the particles lowers the risk.
What to do
Same as with LDL: less saturated fat, more fiber and movement, a controlled weight and glucose. If it persists, a consultation about medication.
