Protein in urine
Protein in the urine measures the overall leakage of protein through the kidneys. Small traces can be normal; larger amounts point to something going on in the kidneys.
This marker is reported as negative or positive on the strip; the app rates it qualitatively, not against a numeric range.
Why it matters
ECLM: may be a sign of kidney involvement; confirm with urine albumin.
If it’s low
Low/absent protein is favorable.
If it’s high
Elevated protein in the urine indicates the kidney is leaking too much — this can be due to kidney disease, diabetes, blood pressure or (transiently) infection/fever.
What to do
Confirm with a more precise test (microalbumin/ratio) and rule out transient causes (infection, exercise). Control of blood pressure and sugar protects the kidneys.
