Progesterone
Progesterone is a female hormone that, after ovulation, prepares the uterus for a possible pregnancy and maintains early pregnancy. Its rise in the second half of the cycle confirms ovulation.

Why it matters
Interpret according to the cycle phase.
If it’s low
Low progesterone during the expected high phase can mean failure to ovulate — a common cause of fertility problems and irregular cycles.
If it’s high
High progesterone in the second half of the cycle is expected (it confirms ovulation); outside this or markedly high requires context (pregnancy, more rarely something else).
What to do
The measurement should be on the right day (~7 days after ovulation). With fertility problems or irregular cycles, seek advice.
