Estradiol

Estradiol is the main female sex hormone (men have some too). It regulates the menstrual cycle, fertility, bones and much more. In women it fluctuates strongly across the cycle.

This marker also has 8 age- or sex-specific range sets in the app — the table shows the general one.

Range: reference interval set by the laboratory (method-dependent) — the app uses the range printed on your report.

Why it matters

Fluctuates with the cycle/menopause; interpret according to phase and sex.

If it’s low

In women, low estradiol accompanies menopause or ovarian dysfunction (absence of menstruation, hot flashes, bone loss).

If it’s high

In women, high estradiol depends on the cycle phase (mid-cycle it is physiologically high); persistently high out of context or in men requires explanation.

What to do

Interpret estradiol according to sex, age and cycle day — on its own, without context, it tells little. With cycle disturbances or menopausal problems, seek advice.
