Eosinophils (abs.)

Eosinophils are a white blood cell subtype active in allergic reactions and defense against parasites. The absolute count tells how many are circulating.

Why it matters

Elevated with allergies/parasites.

If it’s low

Low eosinophils are mostly insignificant (possible with acute stress or steroids).

If it’s high

Elevated eosinophils often accompany allergies (hay fever, asthma, eczema), drug reactions or parasitic infections.

What to do

Read it in the context of allergic symptoms and the overall picture. A mild rise with allergy is common.
