What a reference range means
Next to each value there is a reference range — the limits within which the result falls for most healthy people. If you are outside it, that does not always mean disease. If you are inside it, that does not always mean “ideal”. The range is based on a population, while your optimum may be narrower. That is why context is key: sex, age, other markers and how you feel.
“Normal” versus “optimal”
Many markers have a gap between “still acceptable” and “optimal for feeling well”. Example: ferritin can be “within range” at 20 µg/L, yet at that value you may already feel tired. The target for energy is above 50. The same applies to ApoB and blood sugar.
